Home Cookery at Coal Clough Academy encourages students to be creative and experiment in a kitchen setting where they may not have spent much time before. The practical and theoretical skills learners will acquire throughout the curriculum will empower them to work confidently, independently and develop valuable life skills. In addition to learning to cook, pupils will experience household tasks that will assist them to live independently in the future.

Home Cookery also provides therapeutic benefits to pupils as the opportunity to design and create their own dishes can nurture their creativity and give them a sense of accomplishment.

It also encourages pupils to consider their future employment opportunities beyond school and aims to make them aware of careers and options they might not have heard of, let alone considered, as a rewarding and engaging career.

Learning how to cook is a crucial life skill that enables pupils to feed themselves and others, both now and in later life.
