Heads Welcome:

At Coal Clough Academy, our vision is to re-engage pupils into education. We work with Key Stages 3 & 4 to ensure that our pupils have a second chance at making education a success. Many of our pupils have found it difficult to be successful in a mainstream school.

Our school works in partnership with local schools, the local authority and external agencies to ensure pupils:

  • Achieve good academic attainment, on par with mainstream schools, with appropriate accreditation and qualifications
  • Specific personal, social and academic needs are properly identified and met, in order to help them overcome any barriers to achievement
  • Are supported, in order to improve their motivation, self-confidence, attendance and engagement with education
  • Are supported towards decisions for their next steps following the placement, such as reintegration into mainstream education, further education, training or employment

Pupils are taught in small groups, where they study the core curriculum and can receive the extra support they require. Pupils are then able to make good progress as staff can ensure that learning is tailored to individual student needs. In addition to the core curriculum, we provide rich and varied curriculum opportunities ranging from vocational courses, academic programmes and programmes that support pupils’ personal and social development.

Many of the pupils who attend Coal Clough Academy arrive here at a difficult period in their lives. We aim to ensure that we give them the necessary support to improve their confidence, self-esteem and enable them to become successful learners in school and prepared for their future working lives. Through our high expectations and ambitious curriculum, we ensure that everyone can achieve a happy and healthy lifestyle.

Our school provides the very best educational experiences and opportunities, both in and out of the classroom environment.

The pupils are at the very heart of all that we do at Coal Clough Academy. We are committed to providing a broad and balanced curriculum, through high quality teaching and learning, that broadens and strengthens students’ ambitions for their lives. Our pupils are happy, safe, successful and genuinely care and support one another as they progress throughout their time with us.

I am proud of the pupils who attend Coal Clough Academy, their passion to learn, build new friendships and engage in education is a credit to our school.
