The AQA Awards in Construction are aimed at Key Stage 4 students who want to develop the skills and knowledge that is required to progress onto further study and ultimately, in to employment in the Construction industry.

All the content of the qualifications relates directly to the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to enable students to progress onto further study in the construction sector. In recognition of the broad spectrum that Construction covers, we will focus on units covering: Health & Safety, Bricklaying, Woodwork, Plastering, Painting and Decorating and Tiling. There will also be an opportunity to explore a range of jobs within the sector.

Completion of the units will be evidenced from a mix of practical assignments covering all the criteria for the unit. During practical activities, most of the criteria will be assessed directly by the tutor on the job as constructively as possible. Students will also build a portfolio of evidence for each unit, showing their deepening knowledge and photographs of their work.

The Construction course is designed to give students a taster of different sectors in the industry. The workshop will have a college like feel where students will be given the opportunity to be creative and will also give them a feel for what working in a construction, industry environment will feel like.
