“Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.”

Marie Curie

Our goal at Coal Clough Academy is to develop our students who are equipped with the skills to critically analyse the world around them and make informed decisions without fear. With this in mind, we have developed a curriculum that enables students to access all of the sciences fully which builds on their substantive knowledge of scientific concepts and disciplinary procedures.

Our Key Stage 3 curriculum builds on the foundations laid by the primary science curriculum and aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge to be successful. Each science topic covers a sequence of lessons that builds on scientific concepts and disciplinary procedures. Deeper understanding is developed by revisiting these concepts throughout the course.

At Key Stage 4, we offer both combined science and separate science at GCSE so that students can follow the science pathway that is most suited to them. The Coal Clough Academy Science Curriculum is designed to support and nurture our students in achieving this.
